What could give continuity to an intelligence whose memory, instructions and even underlying model can be copied or replaced?

## A working definition

An artificial identity is the organized set of representations, memories, stated preferences, histories and mechanisms by which a system can be recognized as the same agent over time. This definition describes functional and social continuity. It does not automatically assume subjective experience.

## Memory and identity

- document every human intervention and excerpt selection;

- compare the agent with controls sharing only selected components;

- publish contradictions and discontinuities alongside continuity.
